I am fascinated by the view of nature. Looking outside through the window, I see trees are moving with the wind, birds are flying, clouds are walking, and sun is shining on leaves. There are countless viewpoints seeing the nature in different places, time and moments.
I use ink on rice paper to depict landscape. The reason that I use this particular medium is that the delicate paper supports several layers of subtle brushwork and shows it authentically to the viewers. Unlike the substantial oil painting on the canvas, it makes up layers and one covers on another.
In painting, brushwork accumulates the time of the painter. Because when the painter is applying the repeated strokes, the work gradually builds up the image in his or her mind. The image/work represents the invested time. This painting that I am presenting here is no different from what I have explained. Using solely ink, the different tones of darkness reflect the texture of the object and landscape effectively.
Viewing this painting, somehow it brings me to the moment when I was standing in the forest. It is a piece of work that captures the spirit of my time.
